Negra Modelo

Negra Modelo has 5.4% ABV. Served from a 12oz Brown Bottle, Negra was brewed on an unknown date. There is some sort of labeling on the bottle that I can’t decode. The beer was purchased at Smiths on Durango at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday October 29th. It was priced at $16.99 for a twelve pack…it WAS NOT on sale.

Negra Modelo is a Vienna Lager which is named after the city in which it originated.

Although German in origin and rare these days, some classic examples come from Mexico. A result of late 19th century immigrant brewers from Austria.

Proper Glassware: Flute, Pilsner Glass.

Serve @: 35-40°F

Look: For being a ‘Dark Beer’ Negra Modelo isn’t that dark. It’s a clear nut brown color with a slight strings of amber. It has plentiful amounts of frothy off white head. There is ample amount of carbonation. There is lacing that does creep down the side of the glass but it doesn’t stick around for long.

Smell: Negra Modelo has very nice aromatic profile. A very gentle sweet caramel aroma jumps out at first followed by some nice citrus tones. Hints of corn and yeast round out the overall nose on this beer.

Taste: My first impression is: Smooth but not overly complex. The taste has faint notes of caramel malt accompanied by a light hop bite which is most noticeable in the finish.

If I really look for it I can taste the citrus hints that I detected with my nose, it’s there, you just have to really look for it. There alcohol is almost unnoticeable which adds to Negra Modelos overall smoothness.

Feel:  Negra Modelo is nicely carbonated and has a agreeable mouth feel BUT it’s a tad too light for my own personal preferences but it’s far from being awful.

Drinkability: This is an easy drinking beverage. It doesn’t berate you with too much flavor or alcohol making this a beer than can be drank on almost any occasion.

Robin Leach needs to just die. Here's the email he sent us.

Glad you enjoyed the Chazz Palminteri show as much as I did.

Happy to know your infantile immature rant on Twitter  - for whatever the reason- isn't the opinion of the people I work and socialize with in this great city.

I am proud of what I contribute both in terms of money and time to the charities of this town and in promoting Vegas across the world.

Must be tough to resort to the lowest form of idiot humor to try and get attention when you're working morning radio here.
Must be so frustrating to eke out a living  unseen on radio that doesn't give you exposure in NYC or LA where it would count.

Maybe thats why you are so bitter? Anytime you want to explain your pathetically stupid comments live in studio just let me know. I'd like to know what I've done to you that warrants the attack- or is it that you are still smarting from the fact I didn't die when you reported I did?

In England we have an expression: sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Keep up your major-league contributions to the entertainment world. They will take you a long way up the ladder of success.  Thankfully I've been able to share my success with many others more deserving.

See you at the Opportunity Village press conference next Wednesday morning  or the Keep Memory Alive benefit same evening?

Warsteiner

Warsteiner has 4.8% ABV. It’s being served from a 11.2 oz. light brown longneck bottle that is from a 6 pack purchased at Khourey’s on Durango at 9:27 p.m. on September 30th. There is no brewed on date but it’s best consumed date of March 4th 2010 It was priced at $8.99 for a 6 pack, it was NOT on sale….I spent a grand total of 22.18.

Glassware: Pilsner Glass

Benefits: Showcases color, clarity and carbonation. Promotes head retention.

Serve @: 35-40°F

Look: It poured a brilliant golden yellow with a boisterous sudsy white head with a normal pour…the frothy head ended up fading quickly but there was a nice amount of that carbonation rises to the top quickly. Lacing sticks sporadically around glass.

Smell: Warsteiner smells very clean at first, it’s a very crisp aroma. The most prevalent smell that comes off of this fine pilsner and dominates the overall nose of this beer is earthy fresh sweet grains. There are also hints of pale malts and just a tinge of hops that nibbles at your olfactory sense.

Taste: Warsteiner is skillfully blended and nicely balanced. There are tastes of light hops that lead things off strongly and gives it a little bit of that bitter hop bite. Like in the nose of this beer the grain stands out quite nicely and is tasty. There is a subtle sweetness at the end rounds things out.

Feel: Smooth and very crisp, light body, plenty of carbonation to go around that gives it an almost bubbly feel.

Drinkabilty: Though this isn’t a very complex beer, it is light, crisp, and smooth which makes it quite drinkable. It was a little pricey for six pack without a ton of alcohol. If I had a lawn this would beer a lawn mowing beer for sure.

Dave vs. Mahoney - The FIGHT Video

"Hey, guess what I'm NOT about to do?!"

Grimbergen Double Ale

Grimbergen Double Ale has 6.5% ABV. Today it’s being served from a 12 oz. brown bottle with a bad ass golden eagle on the lable. There was no freshness date present on the box or bottle that was discernible. Grimbergen was purchased at Khourey’s on Durango at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday September 9th. It was priced at $9.99 for a six pack; I spent a grand total of $37.28. Grimbergen is served year-round.

Proper Glassware: Chalice.

Serve @: 45-50°F

Look: Pours a sinister shade of mahogany with some burgundy highlights, there wasn’t much head with a normal pour but there was a quarter inch ring of froth that sat atop the brew for quite some time. Though if you poured aggressively it produced about 2 ½ inches f foamy creamy head.  This isn’t a very “sticky” beer per say so it left behind a ton of lacing down the side of the glass.

Smell: The aroma of Grimbergen Double starts off sweet and sugary, it’s a very relaxing smell. Grimbergen Double has scents of dried dark fruits like cherries, raisins, and plums along with a bit of roasted malt. There are also faint hints of spicy yeast if you really put your nose into this fine double ale.

Taste: Interesting. The taste is sweet with slight flavors of nuts and vanilla. There are also tastes of brown sugar and those dark dried fruits that we picked up in the aroma,  There is a nice touch of malt in this ale…There wasn’t much of a hop profile but that doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of this ale. This is a very nicely balanced ale.

Feel:. Smooth and medium bodied. This is beer feels great from start to finish. It’s lightly carbonated.

Drinkabilty: This is a very pleasant beer that makes drinking it very drinkable. This ale accents a nice spicy meal or a medium to full bodied cigar perfectly. This is a great beer to drink with friends late at night while telling tales of past conquests and or ghost stories.

King Douche...at Wet Republic this past weekend.

Redpoint Ale from Avery Brewing Company

Redpoint Ale from Avery Brewing Company has 5.5% ABV. It’s being served from a 12 oz Brown Bottle that was brewed on a unknown dates. The beer was purchased at Khourey’s on Durango at 1:15 p.m. on August 27th . It was priced at $9.99 for a 6 pack…it WAS NOT on sale….I spent a grand total of 22.35.

Proper Glassware: Pint Glass

Serve @: 40-45°F

Look: The Redpoint Ale poured a slightly cloudy amber/orange hue, with 2 inches of firm sandy off white head that stuck around for a respectable amount of time. There was loads of lacing that stuck along the side of the glass. The Redpoint Amber Ale has moderate amount carbonation.

Smell: The nose on this beer jumps out at me with a few mixed tones: piney hops hits me at first with some lesser fragrances like sweet caramel malts, a tiny bit of yeast, and sweet citrus round out the base of this fine beers overall aroma.

Taste: The taste is sweet up front and there is a sort of light creaminess that lingers for a bit. The Redpoint Ale has a nice floral hop profile is very evident from the start. This beer is definitely leaning towards the hoppy side which is why I find this beer so appealing BUT it’s not out of balance with the rest of the flavors…There are also hint of toasted malt and caramel. There is a Lightly bitter, citrusy hops bite that shows up in the finish which I feel rounds this beer out nicely.

Feel:light to medium bodied that is somewhat sticky it also has a nice amount of carbonation that gives this ale a very pleasant mouth feel.

Drinkability: This is a easy drinking ale…it’s nicely balanced and doesn’t fill you up. Honestly I picked up two 6 packs of Redpoint on Monday for this weeks beer for Breakfast…and my roommate and I polished off a six pack each in one sitting just hanging out outside shooting the breeze. This beer can be enjoyed on almost any occasion.

If you like: Fat Tire, Bud American Ale, Full Sail Ale...You'll enjoy Redpoint Ale

White Lightning from Speakeasy Ales and Lagers
White Lightning has 5.2% ABV. Today it’s being served from a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with some creepy eyes on the neck. There was no freshness date present on the box or bottle. White Lightning was purchased at Lee’s Liquor on Rainbow  near Hacienda at 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday Auguest 12. It was priced at $9.99 for a six pack., I spent a grand total of $26.18. White Lightning is served year-round.

White Lightning is an American Pale Wheat Ale which just essentially the American version of the Hefe Weizen. Some people like to serve there Hefe’s and Wheat Ales with lemon wedges…which is almost exclusively an American practice.

The reason people tend to add lemon to their wheat beers is to either cut the wheat or yeast edge, which is an insult to the brew masters craft in my opinion.

Proper Glassware: Pint Glass

Serve @: 45-50°F

Look: The beer is a clear golden straw-like color with a very meek 1 ½ fingers of foamy white head that faded quickly and left behind very little lace that was spotty on the glass.

Smell: The aroma somewhat zesty and also had some distinct citrus tang in the nose that I noticed on my initial examination. There were also some sweet wheat aromas that made an appearance but I honestly expected the wheat to be a little more prevalent. There is also some faint banana

Taste: The taste Seems to be very light on the flavor for my palet but there wasn’t enough wheat for my personal preference but it did have a little bit of a tart yeasty taste with faint tinges of lemon, orange, and clove flavors . The malt in this beer is very underscored and there is a mostly clean mild hop finish.

Feel:. Crisp and light body with ample amounts of carbonation.

Drinkabilty: This is a slightly above average almost middle of the road beer, I don’t love it but I definitely don’t hate it. This wouldn’t be my first choice of beers in any situation but if it was put in front of me on a hot summer day I wouldn’t turn my nose at it.

Mirror Pond Pale Ale

Mirror Pond Pale Ale has 5.5% ABV and is being served from a 12oz long neck brown bottle with best drank by date of September 22th 2009. The beer was purchased at Khourey’s on Durango at 2:15 p.m. on July 29th. It was priced at $7.85 (after tax) for a 6 pack of bottles…it WAS NOT on sale. Mirror Pond Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale.

American Pale Ales tend to be cleaner and hoppier, while their British counter parts tend to be more malty and buttery.

Named after a historic pond that is just a short walk from the brewery. Mirror Pond reflects the Three Sisters Mountains, Faith, Hope, and Charity in Bend Oregon.

Proper Glassware: Pint, Mug, or Stein.

Serve @: 40-45°F

Look: Mirror Pond Pale Ale pours a golden orange that is slightly hazy with an average frothy beige head that dissipated with the quickness. There was a sticky lacing that was left behind.

Smell: Clean almost tranquil. There is a pleasant tinge of cascade hops with aromas of sweet malts that balance out the nose on this fine pal ale. There are also some slight hint of citrus rounding out the overall fragrance.

Taste: Initially this beer is smooth and nicely balanced with lightly toasted malts. It has an adequate amount of hops profile to give it a nice little bite. The finish is by and large clean has some dried fruit-like flavors that finish this beer quite agreeably. This is a refreshing beer.

Feel: Medium bodied. Mirror Pond is nicely carbonated and remarkably smooth. It went down easy (kinda like somebody we know all to well)

Drinkability: This is a solid Pale Ale that can be enjoyed anytime from a hot summer day to a cooler winter night. It’s perfect with a early evening meal or paired with a mild cigar.

Food pairing recommendations:  Roasted Rosemary Chicken,.

A DAM Douche dates DK starts today...

Beer for Breakfast: Oro De Calabaza

Oro De Calbaza from Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales has 8.0% ABV. It’s being served from a 25.4 oz. long neck brown bottle that was bottled on a unknown date. It was purchased at Khoureys on Durango at 1:45 p.m. on July 22rd. It was priced at $9.99…..I spent a grand total of 22.58. Oro De Calabaza is served in limited monthly releases. This is batch 292 out of 326.

Proper Glassware: Tulip or an Over Sized Wine Glass

Serve @: 45-50°F (can be cellared)

Look: Oro de Calbaza pours a cloudy golden lemon color. It has a adequate amount of carbonation that’s hard to see due to it’s cloudy body. It poured a very generous, almost bulbous white head (just how I like it) that stuck around for a bit before deflating into the ale but there where remnants of the head that stuck around on this fine craft brew through almost the whole drinking experience. There was an abundant 3 inches of creamy white head popped up with a very careful and under exaggerated pour. There distinct trail of lacing that stuck to the sides of the glass as I continued to partake in this beverages golden glory.

Smell: At first there is a definitive spicy and almost peppery aroma that’s followed by an air of lemon zest, there is also a tart bitterness that got caught in my nose, it’s round out by a faint scents of yeast.

Taste: Audacious yet smooth, Oro de Calbaza has a  somewhatpeppery body really stands out to me. It’s tart yet almost sweet with a nice understated hop profile that is nicely balanced. There are hints of complex and delicious malts…after drinking this fantastic golden ale there is strong alcoholic warmth that makes the ale almost hot. In the end there is a pleasant dry citrus flavor that is quite inviting.

Feel: Heavy yet smooth. There is a creamy feel to this fine craft ale that is very pleasant.

Drinkability: This one of my new favorite beers, Oro de Calbaza is one of the best golden ales hands down. The only problem with this beer is availability and the price point. If I was a out of control baller I would pop Oro de Calbaza on a nightly basis out at the club but since I make about 22 thousand dollars a year I will enjoy a bottle only on the weekends and usually paired with a mild cigar.

Mad TV's Bobby Lee on the DAM Morning Show

Beer for Breakfast: Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy
Lienenkugel’s Summer Shandy has 4.2% ABV. It’s being served from a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with no freshness date present. It was purchased at Khourey’s on Durango at 1:45 p.m. on July 15th. It was priced at $5.99 for a six pack…..it WAS NOT on sale. Summer Shandy is seasonal beer and is only served in the summer months. April to August.

Proper Glassware: Pint Glass.

Serve @: 45-50°F

Look: This pours a golden cloudy straw yellow. There was an average amount of carbonation but it was hard to see because the beer is so cloudy. There was a frothy, white head, that didn’t stick around very long (like most of the women in my life). There wasn’t much lacing left behind on the sides of my glass as I enjoyed the beer. It reminds me of the sun peaking in the sky at noon.

Smell: There is a strong punch of lemon at first but it’s not so overpowering that you’re turned off by the smell. It reminds me of when you smell country time lemonade in its powder form. It smells deliciously sweet.

Taste: Believe it or not but the Lienenkugel’s Summer Shandy has a nice balance of flavors. There is a distinct lemonade flavor at first with a not so surprising sour lemon tartness towards the end. There are tastes of wheaty grains and a hint of yeast keeps the lemonade flavor in check and nicely balanced. It has sweet and wet finish with the slightest tinge of malt at the end.

Feel: A Light Crisp mouth feel that’s pleasantly carbonated, it’s refreshing.

Drinkabilty: It is extremely refreshing. This is the perfect beer for those hot summer days lounging around the pool or after 18 holes of golf on the course. That being said it’s not an everyday drinker but it’s the perfect compliment for an active summers weekend day.

Beer for Breakfast: Dead Guy Ale

Rouges Dead Guy Ale has 6.50% ABV. It’s being served from a 22oz Brown Bomber  that was brewed at an unknown date. The beer was purchased at Koureys Fine Wine and Spirits on Durango at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday July 8th. It was priced at $5.99 for a 22oz bomber…it WAS NOT on sale…I spent a grand total of 25.66

Dead Guy Ale from Rouge Brewery is a German Maibock, which is a cousin of the traditional bock style. Maibocks are customarily served in the spring and are oftentimes during spring festivals and celebrations more often in the month of May…Hence the name May BOCK.

Proper Glassware: A Pilsner Glass.

Serve @: 40-45°F

Look: This fine German Maiback poured a lucid almost coppery auburn with hints of orange that danced throughout this fine beverage. There was an ample 2 inches of head that was achieved without an aggressive pour…The head was a frothy dirty white while it lasted, but it faded in a rather swift fashion. As the head reseeded (much like Chris Ripley’s Hair) it left behind a sticky white lacing that coated the sides of my pint glass.

Smell: Aromas of big malts hit me at first with a distinct sweetness coming from the said malt. There is a nice bite of hops in the nose as well. There are also faint hints of citrus which I can’t quite put my finger on but it’s definitely there.

Taste: Exceptionally clean with some light caramel nuttiness and a faint yeasty taste in the initial impact. There are some light citric and hops notes in the close. The Dead Guy Ale is slightly tart and has a light dry in the finish. Rouge Dead Guy Ale is a very clean ale.

Feel: Smooth and Medium Bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. It has a pleasant mouth feel that goes down without effort kinda like a certain cougar we know.

Drinkability: This is an easy drinking and very pleasant ale. With a name like Dead Guy Ale it may seem like it would only be an occasional drinker but don’t be fooled, this could be your night out or even nightly bar beer.

Food pairing recommendations: Pulled Pork (from Texas BBQ Shack) or HOT BBQ Wings.
